Downtown Partnership: Getting Things Done

Vote “YES” on Bond Issue G

When you go to the polls in Baltimore City this November, you’ll be voting for more than the politicians of your choice. You can also cast a vote in favor of Downtown Baltimore’s future. Several important bond issues are on the ballot and, by voting “YES” on Bond Issue G, you’ll support economic development incentives for priority Downtown projects, including improvements to Hopkins Plaza and the removal of an outdated Skywalk at Pratt and Gay streets. The Baltimore Department of Planning has included funding for these two key capital improvements in Bond Issue G, which also supports economic development projects across Baltimore. To learn more about all the important items that will be funded under Bond Issue G, visit our website www.GoDowntownBaltimore.com.

Public-Private Partnership

The Corporate Emergency Access System (CEAS) is a public-private partnership that was developed to help business avoid damage and loss that could result from a disaster or emergency. Participating businesses select a number of employees as their "second responders" who will be given access to restricted areas during an emergency to assess damage and ensure its company's viability. To get involved or for more information, visit www.ceas.com or email tyeager@dpob.org.

Operation: Storefront
Ever dream of starting your own business? Here’s your chance. OPERATION: Storefront, a new Downtown Partnership program, will help inspired people activate Downtown’s vacant first-floor spaces. The goal: to fill Downtown Baltimore to the brim with exciting, creative, and promising young businesses.

The Partnership is seeking proposals from landlords with available space, or from artists, non-profits, and aspiring or established retailers and restaurateurs looking to temporarily set up shop in unused first-floor space in Downtown-area buildings.

OPERATION: Storefront will provide budding entrepreneurs with the time, guidance, and funding to turn their ideas into reality. Successful applicants will be awarded grant money of up to $10,000 for costs associated with occupying currently unused space and operating that space, even if only on a temporary basis.

Proposals are due by November 22, 2010 and may be downloaded at: www.GoDowntownBaltimore.com.

Volunteers Needed - Downtown Court Watch Program
If the adjudication of nuisance crimes that impact Downtown is important to your organization/business, consider  having an employee from your organization volunteer for the Downtown Court Watch Program. This program has been in place for approximately eight years and only requires a three hour commitment to attend court in the morning about once every six months for each volunteer. Typically, Downtown Court Watch participants are not involved in the cases or asked to say anything. The presence of Downtown Court Watch participants in the court room speaks volumes and supports police and prosecutors, affirms to the court the importance of these cases, and sends a message to the defendants that we are committed to the prosecution of those individuals who commit crime downtown. For more information, contact Larry Lewis at llewis@dpob.org.
