Railfest Steam Days Weekend at the B&O
Take an historic steam train ride behind the St. Elizabeth on October 16 & 17 and watch a steam demonstration by the oldest operating steam locomotive in America, the William Mason. Programs highlight the golden age of steam powered locomotives. Joining the Museum in this year's celebration are the Blacksmiths Guild of Central Maryland, demonstrating the skills used in blacksmithing; the Baltimore Area N-Track model train club, operating an all-steam miniature model train layout and displays by the B&O and C&O Historical Societies.

Midori Plays Shostakovich
On Friday and Saturday, October 22 and 23, 8 p.m. this celebration of the violin features one of the world’s most admired classical musicians performing Shostakovich’s great Violin Concerto, a work of extreme emotion that builds to a solo cadenza of virtuosic pyrotechnics. The evening concludes with Stravinsky’s dazzling ballet score Petrouchka, under the baton of distinguished French conductor Gilbert Varga, making his BSO debut.

Free Family Festival of Wonders
Saturday, October 23, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.

Tip toe around the museum in search of hidden objects, create inventive works of art and celebrate the special exhibition Walter Wick: Games, Gizmos and Toys in the Attic. Performers will dazzle all ages with feats of fantasy, artist and author Walter Wick will stop by to sign his books, and a sense of wonder will be experienced by all! See student work inspired by Wick’s books in the student art competition. Admission to the Walter Wick exhibition will be free this day!

Free Fall Baltimore- Dakshina Indian Dance Performance
In this event commemorating Diwali (India and Nepal’s annual festival of lights) on Sunday, October 31, 2 p.m., Dakshina’s dancers will perform a blend of traditional Indian dance illuminated by modern techniques. This event juxtaposes ancient traditions with new vocabularies in movement and dance.
