Retail News
Now Open
Baltimore
Florist has taken over the old Janda Florist spot at 123
E. Fayette Street and will continue to offer an array of
floral arrangements and gift services.
Baltimore Print Studios
has set up shop at 18 W. North Avenue in the Station North
district. The facility is open to the public and rents
studio space and equipment for silk screening and
letterpress printing. Aspiring artists can also sign up for
day-long workshops and events.
Curiosity is a new store located above Whimsy at 1033
S. Charles Street in Federal Hill. The shop is an expansion
of the design studio Destefano & Graleski and features items
such as light fixtures, home accessories, and prints.
D&J Gift Shop has recently opened at 1129 Light
Street in Federal Hill, offering an eclectic mix of wares
ranging from jewelry, pocketbooks, and tea sets to Orioles
and Ravens merchandise.
The Diner is open seven days a week for breakfast,
lunch, and dinner at 413 S. High Street in Little Italy.
This new restaurant specializes in German dishes, including
sour beef and dumplings and sauerkraut, and also offers
pastries, coffee drinks, and free wireless internet.
Fresh Farms Cafe is now
open at 10 South Street for breakfast and lunch, offering
sandwiches, salads, flatbread pizzas, burgers, and
smoothies. The site also features a private meeting room and
catering services.
ILounge is back to
business in the second floor space above Cazbar restaurant
at 316 N. Charles Street. The lounge is open to the public
every day after 4pm for happy hour, hookah, and dinner.
Midnite Confection’s Cupcakery
is now open at 1051 S. Charles Street in Federal Hill. The
bakery features an extensive menu of playfully-named
cupcakes and can also accommodate special orders.
Milk & Honey Market has
opened its doors at 816 Cathedral Street in Mount Vernon.
The market focuses on quality local and sustainable foods
and sources with additional specialty items from around the
world. In addition to groceries, there is also a café
serving sandwiches, soups, prepared foods, and drinks.
Select Lounge is now
open at 415 N. Paca Street. The lounge offers entertainment,
a full menu, and a bar that serves bottled beers and a
rotating selection of over 20 cocktails.
Shiraz Kabob is serving up kabobs and other halal
Middle Eastern fare at 1005 N. Charles Street in Mount
Vernon. In addition to food, the eatery offers wireless
internet to its patrons.
Emily’s Desserts and
Pizzazz Tuscan Grille
have teamed up to open a Wine and Cupcake Bar at Pier
5 Hotel in the Inner Harbor. The bar offers a variety of
local and international wines as well as a cupcake pairing
menu.
Coming Soon
Mari Luna
Mexican Bistro will open this winter at 1225 Cathedral
Street in Mount Vernon. The restaurant is an addition to the
popular Mari Luna restaurant family and will specialize in
the food and culture of central Mexico, offering guacamole
and sangria bars as well as live entertainment.
Remynisce Salon is coming to 300 N. Howard Street.
The 1,250 square foot space will house a new beauty salon
that is scheduled to open by March 2011.

Development News
Baltimore City was chosen as
a winner in the new Living Cities Integration Initiative, a
program that supports innovation that addresses issues
related to low-income citizens. The award includes $19
million in grants, loans, and program-related investments to
assist with efforts to create job opportunities and improve
neighborhoods in Central and East Baltimore. Public,
private, philanthropic, and non-profit organizations across
the city will be working together on this project, with the
goal of establishing a model for how economic development
and transportation investments can benefit City communities.
Mayor Rawlings-Blake has announced a new program called
“Vacants to Value” to combat urban blight and related public
health and safety issues. The program aims to rehabilitate
vacant lots by offering financial incentives to homebuyers
and launching a new website and marketing plan. Housing
officials hope to reduce the number of vacant dwellings by
1,000 during the first year of the program.
City Center
Baltimore City Community Relations Commission has expanded their
office lease by 1,600 square feet at 10 N. Calvert Street.
NIE,
Ltd. helped to broker the deal.
RC Interiors LLC, a residential and commercial interior design
firm, has signed a lease for 2,400 square feet at 339 N.
Charles Street.
Inner Harbor
Legg
Mason Inc. has been awarded LEED Gold-level
certification for the space it occupies at its headquarters in
Harbor East. The base building, Legg Mason Tower at
100 International Drive, has achieved Silver-level
certification. Legg Mason worked with Harbor East Development
Group and interior design firm Gensler to incorporate green
features, such as low-flow water fixtures and recycled
materials, into the design and operations plans for the
facility.
Mt. Vernon
The
Board of Estimates recently approved the sale of the historic
Chesapeake Restaurant at 1701 N. Charles Street to
Station North Development Partners LLC for $500,000 and a
multi-year revenue sharing agreement of up to $2 million. The
property has been owned by the city since 2008. Development of
the 7,000 square foot ground floor space is expected to begin
soon and will convert the existing building into a market and
café, office space, and artist work space. The original façade
will be maintained. The developers also plan to construct
another building, containing retail and apartment units, along
Lanvale Street behind the restaurant.
The Fitzgerald apartment building has officially opened
at 1201 W. Mount Royal Avenue. In addition to 275
apartments, The Fitzgerald also features 24,000 square feet of
retail and a 1,245-space public parking garage. The building was
developed by
The Bozzuto Development Company
and will be managed by
The Bozzuto Management Company.
The Hatcher Group, a Bethesda-based communications firm, has
opened up a Baltimore office at 1501 St. Paul Street. The
new space will house three employees.
Westside
Paragon
Bioservices has announced plans to double the size of its
facilities at the
University of Maryland BioPark.
The expansion will increase office space from 20,000 square feet
to 45,000 square feet and allow for greater manufacturing
capacity and research and development laboratories. The move is
expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2011.
Adjacent Neighborhoods
The
Baltimore Orioles have chosen Sportservice as the new concession
manager for Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Under the
12-year partnership, Sportservice will run all kiosks, retail,
and dining operations. The company and the Orioles are also
undertaking an $11 million project to renovate the food and
beverage stands at the park.
The
Bozzuto Group has announced plans to build a
270-unit apartment building and 500-space parking garage at
Union Wharf, a planned mixed-use development in Fells Point.
Union Box Co. has entered into a contract to sell 3.7 acres of
land in the 900 block of S. Wolfe Street to Bozzuto, and
construction is slated to start in fall 2011.

Continental Title Group and Yerman, Witman, Gaines, & Conklin
Realty LLC have each signed leases for office space at the
McHenry Row development in Locust Point. The former will
relocate its Federal Hill office to 5,000 square feet at the
mixed-use space along Key Highway, and the latter will
move into over 2,500 square feet at the Offices at McHenry
Row. NAI KLNB and
Cushman & Wakefield
represented the developer and landlord of the project.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the 1111 Light Street
development project took place on November 11. Demolition of the
existing property will begin later this month. The $33 million
mixed-use project includes plans for retail and office space as
well as commercial apartments, and the structure is targeted to
be LEED certified.
A new development district is being created that will use tax
increment financing (TIF) to fund infrastructure construction at
the Harbor Point project. The Planning Commission
approved a City Council bill that sets the boundaries for a
26-acre parcel of land in October. Additional council bills
authorizing the plan will be introduced in 2011. The developer
of the property, Harbor East Development Group, plans to build
$800 million worth of housing, office space, and other
construction over the next 15 years.
New Design Light has signed a lease for 4,800 square feet at
175 W. Ostend Street.

celebrates the annual Santa House Lighting this Friday, November
19, at 6 p.m. The event brings together costumed characters,
representatives of the Baltimore Grand Prix, musical performers
and dancers.
