Retail News
Now Open
Apothecary
Wellness has reopened in a new location at 1200 Light
Street, one block north of the previous location. The spa offers
a range of skin and body treatments using natural and organic
products and will be adding new services in the coming months.
The
Baltimore Comedy Factory has moved to 6 Market Place in the
Power Plant Live! complex. The new location features a greater
capacity, a lobby and bar, and the ability to serve food.
Black
Olive Agora is now open on the first floor of the Inn at the
Black Olive at 803 S. Caroline Street. The Greek market offers
an extensive fresh seafood selection as well as cheeses, whole
herbs and spices, prepared foods, home-baked bread, and organic
fruits and vegetables.
Chipotle Mexican Grill is open for business at the Can
Company at 2400 Boston Street in Canton. The fast-casual
restaurant’s menu includes burritos, tacos, and salad bowls.
Francesca’s
Collections is now open at The Gallery at Harborplace at 200
E. Pratt Street. The retailer specializes in fashion-forward
clothing, handbags, jewelry and accessories for women.
Mari Luna Bistro – Cocina
Mexicana is now open at 1225 Cathedral Street. The Mari Luna
family of restaurants includes two existing locations outside of
the City. The Bistro serves traditional Mexican entrees such as
tacos, burritos, and enchiladas and also offers guacamole and
sangria bars.
The Ooh
La La Cupcakery has opened for business at The Gallery at
Harborplace at 200 E. Pratt Street. The bakery offers its
specialty cupcakes in a variety of flavors.
PBR Baltimore is now open
at 2 Market Place on the second level of the Power Plant Live!
complex. The country-western themed bar features two bars, a
large dance floor, and a mechanical bull ride.
Red Springs
Cafe at Hollywood Diner has opened at 400 E. Saratoga
Street. The new restaurant at the historic spot serves diner
favorites along with Southern and soul food cuisine from the old
Red Springs location.
Coming Soon
Bagby Pizza Co. is doubling
its space at 1006 Fleet Street over the next four months. The
restaurant will add another 75 seats, a bar, and an updated menu
including small plates.
Bond Street Social, a sister location of Philadelphia’s
Ladder 15, is coming soon to 901 S. Bond Street. The restaurant
and bar will serve wine, draft and bottled beers, and New
American cuisine.
Chazz: A Bronx Original is coming later this spring to
The Eden Building at 777 S. Eden Street. The restaurant, which
will serve Italian food and coal-fired pizzas, is a joint
venture between actor Chazz Palminteri and the owners of Little
Italy restaurant Aldo’s Ristorante Italiano.
Charm City Cantina will open on April 4th at 200 W. Pratt
Street. The restaurant has the same owners as neighboring Pratt
Street Ale House and will feature casual Mexican fare such as
burritos and margaritas.
Donna’s Coffee Bar plans to
reopen by the end of this year at 800 N. Charles Street. When
reopened, the restaurant will begin serving wine, high-end beer,
and Mediterranean small plates.
Freshii is coming to 30 Light
Street this summer. The full service café emphasizes fresh,
healthy food by offering gourmet coffee, salads, wraps,
burritos, frozen yogurt, and breakfast sandwiches made with
natural ingredients.
White House/Black Market will be opening at the end of April
at 810 Aliceanna Street. The upscale retail chain sells
fashionable clothing and accessories for women.

Humanities
The
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has announced its
new season, which will feature performances ranging from the
classical works of famous composers to the music of “Les

Awards
Baltimore
magazine has announced that their October 2009
best breakfasts spread, titled “Rise and Dine”, took first place
in FOLIO: magazine’s 2010 Eddie & Ozzie Awards for Best Feature
Design. The award was given on the basis of excellence in design
elements, typography, photography, illustration, and overall
layout throughout the entire piece. The spread includes vibrant
depictions of breakfast and brunch menu items and highlights the
range of dining options found in the Baltimore area. It can be

Marks, Thomas Architects have been selected by
Baltimore City officials as the on-call architectural and
related engineering services company for the City. The firm will
be in charge of preparing construction documents for numerous
public buildings, schools, and other structures in the area. The
contract lasts for an initial two years with the option of three
one-year renewals. Marks, Thomas was also selected to design the
renovation of the historic Park Plaza building that was damaged
in a fire in December 2010.
Dining
Miss Shirley’s Cafe was awarded “Best Breakfast
Dish in Maryland” by Food Network Magazine. The dish that was
recognized is the “Shirley’s Affair with Oscar” – two 2-ounce
beef filets topped with asparagus, jumbo lump crab meat and
Hollandaise sauce, on fried green tomatoes and savory grits made
with bacon, then dusted with Old Bay.
Morton's
The Steakhouse is proud to feature its third
Dinner and Auction to Benefit The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the
Mid-Atlantic March 30. Featuring the wines of Charles
Krug Winery, presented by Owner, Wine Maker, Peter Mondavi, Jr.

The 34th Annual
Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar starts earlier this season.
On Sunday, April 3 at 7 a.m. , market-goers can shop for
quality foods and original crafts. The opening day tradition
continues with the Baltimore Islanders Steel Band performing
from 8 a.m. to noon. Plus, the Baltimore City Master Gardeners,
trained volunteers of the University of Maryland Extension, will
be on hand to give expert advice on planting and growing herbs.
The market has an abundance of various types of plants for both
home and garden. The Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar, located
on Saratoga Street between Holliday and Gay streets under the
Jones Falls Expressway, is open every Sunday from April 3
through December 18 from 7 a.m. until sell out, approximately

Each year Baltimore
hosts a unique event welcoming the circus to town- lunch with
the elephants! Head over to
Lexington Market April 6. Music and clowns
arrive at 11 a.m. and at noon the elephants arrive to feast on a
fruit and vegetable cuisine. Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey
presents Barnum 200 will be at the 1st Mariner Arena March 30-
April 10.
Visit
Baltimore invites
all attractions, museums, neighborhood groups, business
associations, etc., planning events, exhibitions, and programs
taking place this summer and fall to post information
here. Events, exhibitions and
programs will be included in the Summer/Fall edition of Visit
Baltimore’s Official Guide and on a microsite used to promote
Baltimore to visitors in town for the Grand Prix. The microsite
will go live prior to Memorial Day Weekend and the guide hits
the streets that same week. Check out the

keep up-to-date on all activities and details related to the
Grand Prix.
Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the
Baltimore City Department of Public Works is
holding its Spring 2011 Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off
Saturday, April 30, 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. at Baltimore Polytechnic
Institute, Falls Rd & Cold Spring Ln. (Please use Cold Spring
Lane entrance to the lot.) Must be a Baltimore City resident and

Interns
The new
IND
Internship Program, launched this spring, is a voluntary
activity open to juniors and seniors with the primary goal of
exposing students to a work experience as close to their chosen
interests as possible and forming mutually beneficial
partnerships with IND's neighboring institutions. Students work
(unpaid) two afternoons per week, from 3 to 5 p.m., with
Saturdays as an option, but the final schedule is determined by
the student and her organization. To learn more about how your

Living
The Fitzgerald at
the
University of Baltimore, a housing development
project completed by
The Bozzuto Group, was
named as “best of its kind – new construction” by the Maryland
Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council at their sixth annual
awards celebration. The structure was awarded this title for
excellence and innovation in green building design.
Shopping
March 7-31
Harborplace & The Gallery will be showcasing the
latest spring looks from various retailers on its
Facebook page. Facebook
fans will have the opportunity to post comments, “like” an image
or trend, and interact with other Facebook users. In addition,
each day during the 4-week program, “Trend-spotters,” armed with
cameras and surprises, will be searching for mall shoppers
wearing the latest trend. Photos of these chic shoppers will be
posted to the mall’s Facebook page.

Development News
The
Baltimore Development Corporation
is seeking vendors, street performers, magicians, and other
entertainers to rent select spots along the waterfront at the
Inner Harbor. The request for proposals is an effort to
increase tourism to the area and promote a pleasant experience
for visitors. Successful bidders will be required to set up shop
by June 1 and commit to a one-year lease term. Interested
parties must submit their proposals to BDC by noon on April 8.
City Center
Franklin & Prokopik, PC, a law firm, has signed a lease renewal
and added additional space at the B&O Building at 2 N.
Charles Street. The new space, which serves as the
headquarters for the company, totals 24,158 square feet.
Cushman & Wakefield, Inc.
represented the tenant in this deal.
Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants has agreed to purchase a portion of
the B&O Building at 2 N. Charles Street for around $33
million. The management company will buy the parts of the
structure occupied by the Hotel Monaco Baltimore and the
B&O American Brasserie from the present owner. A
separate buyer will purchase the additional office and retail
space in the historic building.
Ober| Kaler,
a law firm, has relocated its office to the 100 Light Street
tower. A total of 230 employees of the firm occupy over
94,000 square feet in the building.
Inner Harbor
Baltimore’s Board of Estimates approved a lease that will allow
the Downtown Sailing Center to operate near the Inner Harbor for
another 25 years. Under the agreement, the nonprofit retains
access to the riparian rights and submerged lands off of 1407
Key Highway through April 2036. This site is adjacent to the
center’s larger marina location and has been used by the group
since 2000.
Westside
The
University of Maryland, Baltimore has outlined a
plan for boosting research initiatives, creating jobs,
attracting businesses, and expanding its programs. This
strategic plan includes the goal of launching 10 new companies
each year during the next decade. UM,B also plans to build as
many as two new research buildings to supplement current
facilities, including Health Sciences Facility 3 on Baltimore
Street. Construction is expected to begin on this project in
2012.
Adjacent Neighborhoods
Moodlerooms, a learning technology systems company, has signed a
lease for 7,012 square feet of space on the first and second
floors at 190 W. Ostend Street.
TidalTV, the online video advertising placement company, has
signed a lease for 16,000 square feet at the Offices at
McHenry Row in Locust Point. The company will relocate this
summer from a smaller space in Canton and plans to hire dozens
of workers in the coming months. NAI KLNB and
Cushman
& Wakefield, Inc. represented the landlord and
CB Richard
Ellis represented the tenant in this deal.
