Downtown Management Authority Updates

Spring Beautification- Pruning, Planting and Potting

As spring approaches, the Green Team is fully staffed with three Park Stewards for Center Plaza and one each for Hopkins Plaza and Preston Gardens. Starting in mid-April, we’ll expand our capabilities by employing a Civic Works landscaping crew comprised of six team members and a supervisor who will assist in the planting and maintenance of the over 300 flowerpots and hanging baskets in public spaces throughout Downtown. New plantings will be added to Preston Gardens and flowering baskets will be installed on the railings of the three grand stairways.

We’re working with the city’s Department of Transportation to get all of the fountains operating in the next month and have retained a private contractor to start pruning trees in Court House Plaza and Preston Gardens. Work on converting the crushed granite pathways in Center Plaza to concrete pavers and the improvements to the Park/Liberty dog walk surface and landscaping will begin within the next month.

Downtown Partnership's Park Smart Campaign Expanding

Downtown Partnership is working with the Baltimore City Police Department and Downtown parking facilities to expand its Park Smart messaging reach in an effort to increase awareness among employees, residents and visitors. The Park Smart Campaign was developed as an educational campaign to help employees, residents and visitors prevent larceny from vehicles.

A seminar about the program and ways to implement the messaging was provided to parking facility operators on December 8. This joint effort allows for consistent messaging and cost savings through bulk orders of signage.

Park Smart. Remember to leave your car empty as you shop, eat and enjoy all Downtown Baltimore has to offer. Remove GPS units, i-pods, and gifts from view.

Expanding Trash Pick-Up Service

Downtown Partnership now has a new trash compactor truck that will supplement our current trash pick-up service. Trash will now be collected twice a day, five days a week.
