Retail News
Now Open
Afters is now open at 1001 S. Charles Street. The dessert
and coffee spot serves Illy coffees, frozen yogurt, and baked
goods from Stone Mill Bakery and Patisserie Poupon.
Chazz: A Bronx Original
is open for business at 1415 Aliceanna Street. The new
restaurant, a collaboration between actor Chazz Palminteri and
restaurateurs Sergio and Alessandro Vitale of Aldo’s, offers a
menu inspired by classic Italian-American kitchens and
pizzerias.
Coffee Land has reopened at 222 N. Charles Street
following a brief period of renovation. The café offers a
variety of beverages, sandwiches, pastries and snacks.
Juste B is now open at 1624 E. Fort Avenue in Locust
Point. It is Baltimore’s first all-organic nail bar and offers
spa and beauty treatments that use strictly natural,
eco-friendly products.
Two Boots
is open for business at 1203 W. Mount Royal Avenue. The pizzeria
has relocated to The Fitzgerald apartments from Power Plant
Live! and serves casual, funky Cajun and Italian fare.
White House/Black Market
is now open at 810 Aliceanna Street. The shop sells fashionable
women’s clothing and accessories.
Coming Soon
Cheese Galore &
More will be opening in Cross Street Market at 1065 S.
Charles Street. The specialty food stall, which will offer
gourmet cheeses, nuts, olives, crackers and more, is scheduled
to open in July.
E-Villa will open at 917 Cathedral Street in September.
The space will be a lounge with music and dancing, and will also
feature specialty cocktails and a Latin and Ethiopian food menu.
GoodFellas is coming soon to 336 N. Charles Street. The
restaurant will offer casual Italian fare such as sandwiches and
pizzas and will feature a bar and late-night service.
Sandtown Millworks
is coming soon to 1 E. Lexington Street. The new store, an
Operation: Storefront
project, will sell handcrafted furniture items such as
bookshelves and coffee tables made from reclaimed wood from
local houses and other demolition projects.
Three new restaurants will be opening in Harbor East at the new
Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore, which is scheduled to open this
November. Eatery options include La Mill, an upscale
coffee shop, Pabu, a Japanese restaurant, and Wit &
Wisdom, a contemporary tavern overseen by celebrity chef
Michael Mina.

Awards
and Honors
The Fitzgerald,
a mixed-use community developed, built and managed by
The Bozzuto Group,
has been selected as a winner in the Urban Land Institute’s (ULI)
Awards for Excellence: The Americas competition. The Fitzgerald
was selected from more than 140 entries and will now advance for
consideration in the ULI Global Awards for Excellence program.
Dining
Miss Shirley’s Cafe
launched its Southern gourmet mobile food truck earlier this
month. The new restaurant on wheels features the same fare that
is served in the restaurant, but on a smaller scale. Menu items
include gumbo, fried green tomatoes, the Cold Spring crab cake,
and famous sandwiches. Daily location maps and menu are

Events
Thinking about
commuting to work by bicycle? Attend the Bike 101 Commuter
Workshop Thursday, June 30, 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Harbor
East, 650 South Exeter Street, 7th Floor Courtyard. Topics will
include getting started, staying safe of the road, choosing the
right equipment, routes, bicycling in various types of weather,
and more! Light refreshments will be served. All attendees will

Non-Profit
The
Baltimore Symphony Orchestra
has received a $100,000 grant from the National Endowment for
the Arts. The funds will be used to support the BSO’s upcoming
tours of the East and West coasts and for educational
activities. During the 2011-2012 season, the symphony will
perform at venues such as the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in
Costa Mesa, California and Carnegie Hall in New York City, New
York.
Associated Catholic Charities, Inc.
announced the
30th anniversary of Our Daily Bread, which first opened its
doors on June 1st, 1981. Our Daily Bread has been serving the
community consistently since this date and has remained open for
the past 10,958 consecutive days. Thanks to tens of thousands of
volunteers, the center has served nearly 7 million meals and
impacted the lives of countless local citizens.

Development News
The
Baltimore Development Corporation
is seeking proposals from
developers to purchase and redevelop a vacant former high school
located at E. North Avenue and Broadway. The 125,000
square foot building dates to 1905 and has been used as a school
and an affordable housing project. The BDC is seeking a
developer who would renovate the building for a use other than
residential. The deadline to submit a proposal is August 16
at 4 p.m. and application information can be found
here.
City Center
The 201 N. Charles Street building has earned LEED Gold-EB
certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for
operations and maintenance. The 261,400 square foot class A
office building is one of the first structures in the Central
Business District to receive this designation. The building also
has an Energy Star performance rating of 80.
Home2 Suites by Hilton Baltimore Downtown is now open at 8 E.
Pleasant Street. The new hotel is one of the few extended
stay hotels in the City, and guests can customize their suites
to create their own space.
Miles & Stockbridge P.C., a
law firm, has signed a lease for 120,000 square feet of office
space at 100 Light Street. The company will move more
than 275 employees to the new location beginning in April 2013.

Planet Depo’s has signed a lease for 1,227 square feet of office
space at 100 E. Pratt Street and will move in at the end
of this year.

Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker LLP, a national law
firm, has signed a lease for 14,900 square feet of office space
at 500 E. Pratt Street. The company will move operations
to this site from its current location at 200 St. Paul Street,
tripling the amount of office space they occupy in the Downtown
area.

Inner Harbor
The
Greater Baltimore Committee
(GBC) has unveiled plans for a large-scale redevelopment of the
Inner Harbor. The plans include a $900 million multiplex, which
would house the new arena, a hotel and an expanded convention
center, as well as new waterfront attractions and a conversion
of the Rash Field site. Proposed options for the redevelopment
project can be viewed on the
GBC website.
PNC Bank,
a financial services company, has signed a lease for 119,000
square feet at 1 E. Pratt Street. The deal includes
naming rights to the building and a 7,000 square foot bank
branch in the lobby. The company will move from its current
space at 2 Hopkins Plaza in July 2012.

Mount Vernon
Construction has begun on the 11-story student apartment
building at Maryland Avenue and W. Biddle Street. The $24
million project, tentatively named the Varsity, will include 323
beds, amenities such as a gym and study areas, and a green roof
designed by
Floura Teeter Landscape Architects, Inc.
The apartments will be
available to students at
University of Baltimore,
MICA, and other area schools. The developer for the project is
Bethesda-based Potomac Holdings.
Westside
Construction has begun on the new Everyman Theatre at the former
Town Theatre site at 315 W. Franklin Street. The
renovation project includes turning the site into a 250-seat
theater with the hopes of launching a “theater district” in the
area. The Everyman Theatre Company plans to move from the
Station North Arts District to this new site in time for its
2012 season.
Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice, PLLC, a law firm, has renewed
its lease for 17,738 square feet of office space at 250 W.
Pratt Street.

Adjacent
Neighborhoods
Little Angels Learning Palace Daycare has signed a lease for
4,400 square feet of office and retail space at 301 E. Fort
Avenue.
HeavySwing LLC has signed a lease for 1,688 square feet of
office space in the Bagby Building at 509 S. Exeter Street.
M.C. Dean, Inc.,
a Virginia-based electrical engineering firm, has purchased and
renovated a warehouse at 180 W. Ostend Street in Sharp-Leadenhall.
The 105,000 square foot space will serve as the company’s
Baltimore headquarters. The extensive renovation project was
designed in conjunction with
Notari Associates
and includes solar roofing and LEED Silver-level registration
for energy efficiency.
The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults,
a non-profit organization that provides specialized support for
young adults affected by cancer, has signed a lease for 3,170
square feet of office space in the Foundry on Fort at 921
Fort Avenue.
