Downtown Management Authority Updates
“Operation
Check-In”

Monday, March 14 to Friday, March 25 Clean Sweep Ambassadors
cleaned up areas around more than 20 Downtown hotels during
its 6th annual “Operation Check-In" to provide a cleaner and
aesthetically-pleasing environment for hotel guests.
During “Operation Check-In,” Clean Sweep Ambassadors
conducted a major clean-up effort in a one-block radius in
each direction of the hotel scheduled for service. The
clean-up consisted of cigarette butt removal from pavement
groves, power-washing of sidewalks, graffiti removal from
poles and buildings, and other tasks to improve the
appearance of areas surrounding the targeted hotel
before the summer tourism season begins.
Spring
Beautification- Pruning, Planting and Potting
As spring approaches, the Green Team is fully staffed with three
Park Stewards for Center Plaza and one each for Hopkins Plaza
and Preston Gardens. Starting in mid-April, we’ll expand our
capabilities by employing a Civic Works landscaping crew
comprised of six team members and a supervisor who will assist
in the planting and maintenance of the over 300 flowerpots and
hanging baskets in public spaces throughout Downtown. New
plantings will be added to Preston Gardens and flowering baskets
will be installed on the railings of the three grand stairways.
We’re working with the city’s Department of Transportation to
get all of the fountains operating in the next month and have
retained a private contractor to start pruning trees in Court
House Plaza and Preston Gardens. Work on converting the crushed
granite pathways in Center Plaza to concrete pavers and the
improvements to the Park/Liberty dog walk surface and
landscaping will begin within the next month.
