BGE Smart Energy Savers Program is a proud partner of the Monument Lighting, providing this year’s energy-efficient holiday lights to help Baltimore save energy and money.

New Discussion Series! Spotlight: Gary Vikan and Noah Charney

Saturday, November 7, 4 p.m. Members free; non-members $10; students $5; pre-registration recommended.


Fans of Walters director Gary Vikan’s WYPR radio vignettes, Postcards from the Walters, will enjoy this 2009–10 series of lively on-stage talks between Vikan and special guests. In this session, he will chat with author Noah Charney and discuss his novel, The Art Thief, and the topic of art theft. Reception and book signing follow.

 

The Women’s Committee of the Walters Art Museum presents Classical Links: Jewelry Fair at the Walters, Friday, November 20–Sunday, November 22, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Classical Links will showcase 20 of America’s best jewelers in the Walters’ Sculpture Court, offering pieces varying in style from traditional to contemporary. The weekend will also offer a variety of activities and celebrations, including a fashion show, opening night party and gallery talks featuring exhibiting jewelers and members of the Walters’ curatorial staff.

Veterans Day Weekend
Saturday, November 7 (10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) and Sunday, November 8 (11 a.m. - 4 p.m.)
Special living history presentations by members of the 4th Infantry Military Police Unit on the WWII Troop Sleeper. The Maryland Defense Force, a 30-piece band, performs two performances of patriotic and big band music on Saturday at Noon and 1:15 p.m. Vintage military vehicles will also be on display.

Restoration Facility Tour: the New, the Old, the Restored! Sunday, November 15, 1 p.m. Take the train ride for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum's state-of-the-art restoration facility constructed in 2005 to restore and maintain the museum's locomotive and rolling stock collection.

 

Space is limited to 25 people ages 13 and up. Tickets are $10 per person with paid admission.

Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar

The 32nd annual Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar is still open for the fall. Visitors can shop at the market every Sunday through December 20, 8 a.m. to sell out, approximately noon. The market has an assortment of crisp produce, lean poultry and other meats, diary and nut products and freshly baked breads. Don’t forget to visit the bazaar, located at the market near Guilford Avenue and Pleasant Street. Local craftspeople provide handmade jewelry, handbags and other accessories, collectibles perfect for the home including stained glass, chairs and pottery, and uniquely crafted gifts for the upcoming holiday season.

During the fall, local farmers provide great deals on sweet potatoes and potatoes, beets, turnips, greens and green beans, apples, pears, flavorful spices and herbs, chestnuts, cauliflower and broccoli, cucumbers, eggplants, onions, leeks and a variety of squash as well as pumpkins. Currently, poultry farmers are taking orders at the market for turkeys and other customary holiday meats.

Discovery Days Return

Since 1999, Port Discovery has hosted "Maryland Discovery Days," special days of the year that are just for students with disabilities to explore the exhibits, programs, and special activities, in a safe and fun environment.

Four "Maryland Discovery Days" are offered each year, and admission is free for Maryland school students. Each day features special activities, performances and information tables. Advance registration is required. For more information, contact Nora Moynihan at 410.864.2685.
